Vintage is MORE than Fashion!

Yup - I am a lazy woman.

Someone asked if I sold my houses and I thought dang, i should. So I've added a few things to slexchange and boxed up the structures for sell at the Vignette model homes.

So am am posting these three which are now for sale.

First is the old vintage art deco movie theater, the Romana - the boxed set is mod/copy and has some sweet seats in the theater with lots of different poses. Stop by and chick it out or take a peek on slexchange.

Second is a 1920's kit home inspired by the Sears (Walton's Rest). This one will remind you of summers at grandma's when you were a kid.

Third is Summer Delight which is also inspired by the old 1920's - 30's kit homes. Check out all that incredible detail for only 111 prim - can't beat that!

What's Up?

Well - this past week I've been up at the workshop hammering and pinning upholstery. I was going for a lush vintage set, something that would bring out the diva in all of us:)

Sooo..I figured it was time to put my newest project in the store (Vignette).

Jazz Age

Good morning all!

Not all women in the 20's wore cute little flapper dresses. In fact, the 1920's must have been massive confusion for many designers.

This soft, feminine, flowing dress was truly the most popular style of the time. Sure, flapper dresses were popular, but flapper girls were considered a bit , how shall i put it.....loose.

Let's talk hemlines. I picked up this information over at Fashion-Era:

The Elusive Hemline of the 1920s.

Gradually by degrees the skirt lengths on dresses gave the illusion of being first long and then shorter with dipping, scalloped and handkerchief hemlines in floating fabrics. It was only in 1925 that skirts rose 14 to 16 inches (45 to 50 cm) from the ground making the shorter hemline we associate with the era.

*Wow - From the handkerchief hemline to the length, this dress captures that description perfectly! If I was to pick an exact year, I would say this in 1925.

BTW - As you slip the dress on, you may want to wear your system skirt shape.

The hat was actually from another stunning 20's outfit (Spring Time Jazz dress) , over at Silver Rose Designs. Yuriko Muromachi has also captured the 20's look incredibly well. I simply backed up my copy of the hat and re textured it a nice distressed brown. Love this sculpty shape - great floppy look without going overboard.

The hair was a great - I only had to trim 2 strands! Be sure you make a backup before cutting your hair. This short style was soft and touchable.

The skin is new. Yes, Lorac Farella at Pulse has taken the plunge and created skins! They are worth a look. I was very happy to see 4 skins in my package. Yes, frecked skin was in the pack, but listen to this....3 nipple color choices!!! (all included) .

My two pet peeves with skin are lips and nipples and she has done a great job with both. She is still learning, but she has made an impressive start. Stop by and check out these demos.

1920's/Depression Schoolhouse

Hey!! A school house with character, really! This quaint 1920's school house could easily fit into other eras. It was modeled after the real thing. It's all mod and copy - so have some fun with it!

Schoolhouse: it has 2 rooms - I like to think of one room for the class and the other perhaps for administration or a lab. The center wall separates the 2 rooms but I have left a small space at the top of the wall to allow for easy camera maneuvers. The front and back entry ways to the school have great steps which would allow for a variety of scenarios. Come out and see the place before you buy if you like! (117 prim). Desks:
The box includes 7 desks - all with a different pose. These old desks were meant to hold 2 students each, but in mosts of the desks i have placed one pose and you are encouraged to find another fun pose in sl to go next to it. (21 prim each and worth it) Take a look at the photos - the benches are built in. These may be bought at Vignette at 100L$ ea, but in this packet you get all 7 for some variety. A teachers desk in not included.

Presidents:
Oh yes - had to have them - but they are removable. They go up to President Coolidge (2 prim)

Chalkboard - great eye candy! It is not scripted but adds tons of personality and sets a great mood. (3 prim)

This package is the whole deal. whether setting up for a student class or adult education / continuing education classes, this set should be looked at. $800L for everything listed above is a real deal:)

Wicked Times

With Neferia's newest releases, this one was the "must have".

Wow - It fit like a dream (soo easy to resize as needed). The lightly transparent layers on this dress are worn at both the stomach and the spine. This creates a much fuller effect than any other flapper dress I've seen in the game.

Those lovely, fun, impulsive Flappers:

• were young
• embraced modern things
• smoked (with those long cigarette holders)
  
• wore their hems above the knee (but not thigh high)
  
• were flat chested (binding as needed)
  
• flappers who were riskier refused to wear corsets and rolled their stockings to the knee to enable them to dance easily.
  
• wore makeup
• danced the night away (Jazz)

To compliment the style (I couldn't bring myself to flatten the chest) I added the lovely Antique Headdress from Chapeau tres Mignon and pearls from Encore.

The skin gave the outfit a vibrant look. The bold red lipstick was a must!

Gas???

I couldn't resist - my filling station (gas station) is now on Slexchange and can be seen in world at Vignette.

Per Wiki Answers - Gas prices in the 1920's were only .18 cents per gallon. The price of a new Chevy half-ton pickup truck was only $650. A used Ford was only $57.50 cents.

So if your looking for simpler times, a small town build or just plain eye candy, stop by and take a peek. This is a classic design of the 1920's.

Last night I was able to play catch up and list several things on slexchange, but dang - I do need to get more inventory listed there.

Thing is - I like little details. This means most items are sold in little vignettes. As an example - if you buy a 1920's stove, you will get and old kettle, cooking pot and percolator (like your grandparents had) too. I think the details set the mood. Of course it is your choice as to whether to use all of them or not. In fact, if you see something you like, it can be bought as a single item in game on Vignette. My items are not always in the store - but somewhere on the sim, so feel free to explore.

BTW - if someone can come up with some nice screen door textures for future builds - I would be sooo interested!

Vignette

Hey all - last night spent a little time working on my favorite project - Vignette. I am setting aside a little corner for the 1920's. I still have a few touch ups to take care of on the filling station but that particular structure is about finished. You're welcome to drop by the Sim and take a peek. The area will always be a work in progress.
The largest structure in the park is is where my furniture may be bought. Feel free to poke about. In celebration of the 20's filling station I decided to go with a 20's look today.

Flapping

I was on a bit of a quest today to find a vintage store. I wanted to find one that would be new to me. After a lot of digging at Onrez, I found Cartunno Couture.

It IS worth checking out.

On many of their items they listed what inspired them. I loved that!!

I looked about for one that might have a hat and found "City Lights" (inspired by a 1927 book). It was simple, had clean lines, and it seemed to have personality.

Surprises

I stumbled on to this sweet red 1920's dress today from a designer that i did not think of as a vintage designer (toraji Voom). Take a close look at the detail on this dress...the soft shadows of the skirt...the tiny ruffles at the hem..the little bos at the back of the neck. Here's the real catch - only $150L. If you love retro don't pass this one up!

The Cloche Hat - EVERY lady of the 20's had them and wore them. This one is actually white with black ribbon - but it is mod!! I went into textures and changed the colore to red - it was that simple.

The toughest part was fitting my hair. Be sure to make a copy of your hair before playing with it. I go in and took out whole prims in this great flapper style and then trimmed a few of the other prims the next thing i knew - TaDaa!!

I am wearing the great Tux shoes and Shiny Things and the eyes are a pair of the first eyes i owned in sl - they are called Babydoll eyes. The skin is another Gala Skin, basic gloss. **Always wear prim lashes and an inner light**

Springtime Jazz - 1920's

When i first saw this vintage piece- it wasn't all about the flapper of the era. It was every woman. This beautiful sage color is what would have been used - I must admit I love the hat!!!

The things i like about this dress would be the neckline and the sleeves - a very subtle feminine look. Shiny Things has amazing shoes that fit in with the retro theme sooo well. I am off to find a few 1920's locations. Hmmm - i hear there is a speakeasy out there ..well i am off to check it out!

Kitchen Work of the 1920's

Seems I've settled into the 1920's these days. A have completed a few excellent kitchen pieces that i am very proud to show off!!

I work around old thing things everyday at my RL job so to come here and recreat such beautiful things is such a pleasure.

I wanted so badly to create a specific Chamber's range but unfortunately, it belongs to a different decade. So it is another project i look forward to another day:)

At this time my plan is to make a small 1920's house to furnish as it would have been almost a hundred years ago. It is a major project! One of my biggest obstacles in creating the house will be the walls, believe it or not - they had very tiny rooms in the 20's. This could create problems moving about in the home so some compromises will need to be made.

Well - off to build a house!!

Vignette - New Stuff!

After a month of planting trees and setting up cuddles, cabins and a new set of furniture, Vignette is open for visitors!

Vignette – Yes! A NEW store name. I had used the name Serendipity for a long time, but decided a change was in order. Why?? Serendipity was just about the furniture….

Vignette is not just about the furniture, but about the themes and stories behind the furniture.

As an example, I have a new Mission/Craftsman set (check out the great pictures). As I placed the furniture in the store I wondered about the year it could have been made. Pretty much anytime between 1910 and 1950, so I choose the 1930s. The accessories in the room reflect the time period.

I am very excited about the concept. As I finish up some of the 1930s decorating accessories – I will move on the other rooms and tell their stories.
